Well, Obama is fond of four things- his career as Mr President, his daughters, his blackberry phone and calling out people. The victim this time round was the Hip-hop mogul/ Grammy-winning rapper, and husband to reality TV star Mr Kanye Omari West.
After Kanye interruped Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards, Obama had something to say and it was not all that kind. A transcript of the conversation between Obama and the CNBC interviewer by TMZ. Here we go
Q: Were your girls as hacked off as mine were that Kanye gave Taylor Swift the Joe Wilson treatment?
Obama: I thought that was really inappropriate. You know it was like she’s getting an award — why are you butting in? I, I hear you — I agree with you.
Q: So does that count as the first question?
Obama: The young lady seems like a perfectly nice person. She’s getting her award. What’s he doing up there? He’s a jackass. (Laughter) No, now — this — all this stuff — I’m assuming all this stuff. Where’s the pool? Come on guys. Cut the president some slack. I got a lot of other stuff on my plate. Yeah. Cause I remember last time it was the fly thing. Now that was the highlight of (trails off)
Q: No that worked out well for you. You were a ninja.
Obama: Except PETA… (laughter)
This remark became even more ground breaking when an ABC reporter Terry Morgan posted it on Twitter then deleted it.
Later, Kanye offered a heart-felt apology to Taylor.
The drama does not end there, Obama confirmed that he is unapologetic for calling him so when he repeated the same during an interview with The Atlantic.
“Although I like Kanye,” Obama continues, with an easy smile. “He’s a Chicago guy. Smart. He’s very talented.” He is displaying his larger awareness of the question, looking relaxed, cerebral but friendly, alive to the moment, waiting for me to get to the heart of the matter.
“Even though you called him a jackass?,” I ask.
“He is a jackass,” Obama says, in his likable and perfectly balanced modern-professorial voice. “But he’s talented.”
This is not the first time Obama talked about music and it’s controversy- he also called out Nicki for saying he is ruining the economy in her song Mercy ft Lil’ Wayne.
Now that’s some presidential shade right there!
